STEVE LACY
Steve Lacy has always been an overachiever. In high school, he’d already received a Grammy nom. At 25 years old, he has a veteran’s resume – Grammy Award winner, Time’s Most Influential Teen, Virgil Abloh model, and collaborations with game-changing artists like Tyler the Creator, Solange, Mac Miller, J.Cole, Vampire Weekend, Thundercat and Kali Ucheris. But none of this will prepare you for the sprawl and scope of his sophomore album GEMINI RIGHTS. Like Lacy himself, the record is an amalgamation of a crazy array of references and influences – everything from Andre 3000 to The Beatles to Sly Stone to his friends/band mates in The Internet. Featuring the viral sensation ‘Bad Habit’, it's an album that is savage, hilarious, tender, sexy, heartbroken and wears its heart on its sleeve. Written, produced, and played pretty much entirely by Steve, GEMINI RIGHTS is an incredible leap forward for an artist who has already established himself as a true cultural force. The last time Steve Lacy played at Laneway Festival, as part of The Internet, he had such a good time that he personally asked to come back. Our answer was always going to be a resounding yes.
