Erny Bell (Ngāpuhi) is a sweet enigma adorned by dark dreams, wild wonder and spellbinding songs. With music that toes the line between country and folk, her lyrics are musical poetry that take inspiration from the world around her. With a strong penchant for her home base, her recently released album Venus is Home documents life growing up in Aotearoa and the nostalgia that comes with being a Kiwi - from the familiarity of her local Four Square to the suffering that happens in our own backyards. While Erny seemed to appear from nowhere with her emergence in October 2021, she quickly made her mark by commanding the stage leather-clad and red wine in hand at her sold-out album release show, before opening for country-crooner Orville Peck and Canadian singer Andy Shauf. Erny Belle featured on the lineup for Laneway Festival NZ in 2023 and can’t wait to make her triumphant Laneway debut in February next year.
